Yield Signs

Yield Signs

Yield signs are used in place of stop signs in instances where a complete stop may not be required. Yield signs are the only shape traffic sign that is an equilateral triangle, meaning that all three sides are the same length. Yield signs are measured differently than other traffic signs, as they are unique in shape. They are measured by the length of the sides before the corners are rounded. For example: a 36" yield sign, the most commonly used size, is made from a sheet of aluminum that is 36"x36"x36" before the radius is applied to the corners. This results in the yield sign being 34.5" from right to left and 29.5" from top to bottom.

MUTCD Guidance: Yield signs may be used instead of STOP signs if engineering judgment indicates that one or more of the following conditions exist:
A. Use yield signs when the ability to see all potentially conflicting traffic is sufficient to allow a road user traveling at the posted speed, the 85th-percentile speed, or the statutory speed to pass through the intersection or to stop in a reasonably safe manner.
B. Use yield signs when controlling a merge-type movement on the entering roadway where acceleration geometry and/or sight distance is not adequate for merging traffic operation.
C. Use yield signs at the second crossroad of a divided highway, where the median width at the intersection is 9 m (30 ft) or greater. In this case, a stop sign may be installed at the entrance to the first roadway of a divided highway, and yield signs may be installed at the entrance to the second roadway.
D. An intersection where a special problem exists and where engineering judgment indicates the problem to be susceptible to correction by the use of yield signs.

The microprismatic reflective sheeting is shown here. This material catches light at nighttime and reflects it back towards the source, causing the sign to shine brightly.
Prismatic Yield Sign Up Close

Our yield signs are screen printed with ultraviolet resistant inks. This provides for a high gloss finish and vibrant red color that will last for ten years outdoors. This also guarentees that the letters will never fall off, unlike some "vinyled-on" letters.
