Page 63 of the Rice Signs 2017 Traffic Safety Catalog covers two sign post alternatives to the U-Channel. Square Sign Posts use a telescoping design — a smaller post slides inside a larger anchor post sleeve to create a damage-replaceable mounting system. Available profiles are 1.5 inch (smallest), 1.75 inch, 2 inch, 2.25 inch, and 2.5 inch — selected so each size telescopes inside the next-larger size. Square posts are pre-punched on all four sides on 1 inch centers and are typically galvanized. Round Sign Posts are heavy-duty schedule-40 pipe in 2 3/8 inch and 2 7/8 inch outside diameters — used for highway-grade signs that require higher wind-load capacity. Round posts are galvanized inside and out with optional baked-enamel powder coating for cosmetic installations.
