Page 64 of the Rice Signs 2017 Traffic Safety Catalog covers Base Post Hardware — the breakaway anchor systems that hold sign posts in the ground and release the post on vehicle impact (a critical safety requirement for roadside signs). All three sign post families have matching two-piece breakaway connectors: U-Channel posts use U-PPC (Primary Post Connector) and U-SPC (Secondary Post Connector) to form a sleeve-and-shear-bolt assembly at the ground line. Square posts use S-PPC / S-SPC for the same function with a square-profile anchor sleeve. Round posts use R-PPC / R-SPC for the heavy-duty highway equivalent. On impact, the shear bolts fracture, the post tears away from the anchor stub, and the sign clears the roadway — replacement requires only the post and a new pair of shear bolts.
