About ADA Walls

What is an ADA Wall?

An ADA Wall is a channelizing device that establishes a temporary pedestrian route a safe distance away from a work zone. Contrasting orange-and-white sheeting adds visibility for visually-impaired pedestrians.

How is this device used?

When a sidewalk or crosswalk is temporarily closed, this device is used to lead pedestrians to the alternate walking path and separate them from the construction zone.

What makes this ADA-compliant?

The pedestrian side of the wall has what the MUTCD and ADA legislation refers to as “detectable edging”. Designed with accessibility in mind, the top of our ADA Wall provides a smooth, continuous hand-guiding surface. Similarly, the edging at the bottom of the wall guides cane users along the walking path.

The image shows two rectangular plastic pedestrian barricades connected at their interlocking ends — a white Urbanite Wall on the left and an orange ADA Wall on the right — each with a solid upper rail, slatted middle section with vertical openings, and a solid lower panel. Molded text on the white unit reads 'URBANITE WALL' and on the orange unit reads 'ADA WALL,' both with 'TrafFix Devices, Inc.,' website, phone number, and 'MADE IN USA' markings. No reflective sheeting is visible on this rear-facing side, with barricade light mounting holes at the top corners and foldable metal support legs with black rubber feet at the base.

Setup & Installation

Does this product require assembly?

Tubular galvanized steel legs are integrated into the design of the wall, so the only setup required is to swing each leg out and lightly step on it to secure the mechanism.

The unit displays 'ADA WALL' branding in the upper corners and 'STEP-N-DEPLOY' text near the base. White ADA Wall: ADA-Compliant Pedestrian Barricade for Versatile Work Zone and Event Channelization
How do I connect two walls together?

Each wall has two complementary connectors, one on each side. The flexibility of these connectors allows walls to be placed at the angle that you need.

Can I install Barricade Lights onto a wall?

Yes, each wall has two molded mounting holes to accommodate two Barricade Lights of any style.

Per the 11th Edition of the MUTCD, pedestrian barricades such as the ADA Wall are used to channelize pedestrian traffic and provide a detectable barrier for pedestrians with visual disabilities in temporary traffic control zones. The freestanding support legs allow the device to be deployed without additional ballast, ensuring rapid setup and a stable, detectable barrier that visually impaired pedestrians can identify using a long cane.
