Loading Zone Signs FAQ
What is a loading zone?
A loading zone is a section of curb or roadway reserved for the active loading and unloading of goods or passengers. Parking there is restricted so delivery and pickup vehicles always have space, and the restriction is posted with a loading zone sign.
What does a No Parking Loading Zone sign mean?
It means the space is reserved for vehicles that are actively loading or unloading, so ordinary parking is prohibited. You may briefly stop to load or unload, but you cannot leave a vehicle parked and unattended in the zone.
What is the difference between loading and unloading?
Both describe active transfer of goods or people to or from a vehicle, and a loading zone covers both directions. The sign wording is often simply Loading Zone or Loading and Unloading; we can print either legend depending on your needs.
What is a passenger loading zone or drop-off / pick-up sign?
A passenger loading zone is reserved for briefly dropping off or picking up people rather than freight, common at schools, hotels, and transit stops. Our Drop Off And Pick Up Only sign (R7-6D) marks these areas.
Can loading zones be time-restricted?
Yes. Many loading zones only apply during set hours or on certain days. We offer time-restricted loading zone signs (R7-6C and R7-6E) and can add custom hours or days to any loading zone sign.
What color are loading zone signs?
No Parking loading zone signs are white with red legend and border, matching other parking-prohibition signs, so the restriction reads clearly from a distance. Time-restricted and informational versions may use green or black legends depending on the message.
Are loading zone signs MUTCD compliant, and can I customize the wording?
The R7-6 series follows MUTCD conventions for parking regulation signs. We can also customize the wording, hours, and arrows so the sign matches your local ordinance or private-property rules.
What size and material are loading zone signs?
Standard sizes are 12x18 inches for typical curbside use and 18x24 inches where higher visibility is needed. Signs are printed on rust-proof .080" aluminum with reflective sheeting for durability and night legibility.
