The Runaway Vehicles Only sign MUTCD R4-10 indicates the location of a designated escape ramp or other area where vehicles experiencing brake failure or other emergencies can safely stop or slow down; these signs are commonly found on steep mountain grades or other areas where vehicles may be at risk of losing control or experiencing mechanical failure.
