The MUTCD W17-1M Speed Bump Sign is a warning sign used to alert drivers about upcoming speed bumps on the road. Its purpose is to encourage drivers to reduce their speed and navigate safely over the bumps, minimizing potential damage to their vehicles and improving overall road safety. This is a modified version of the W17-1 where MUTCD allows for the legend SPEED BUMP to be used.

Example Use:
At the entrance of the Atmore Mall, the management observed that many drivers approached the main gate at speeds that were potentially hazardous for pedestrians and other vehicles. To remedy this, they installed a prominently displayed 'Speed Bump' sign. This sign was placed about 100 feet before the actual speed bump, giving drivers ample warning and time to decelerate. Additionally, the speed bump itself was painted with bright yellow stripes to increase its visibility. As a result, drivers, forewarned by the sign, began to approach the entrance with more caution, ensuring a safer environment for all mall visitors.
