R7-8 Purpose and Use
The R7-8 is the federal standard sign reserving a parking space for vehicles that display a valid disability plate or placard.
Set one at the head of every accessible stall, centered on the space, with the bottom edge at least 60 inches above the surface so it clears a parked van.
R7-8 Questions
What is the difference between the R7-8 and the R7-8a?
The R7-8 is the standard MUTCD sign and pairs the accessible symbol with RESERVED PARKING wording. The R7-8a states the restriction in text. Specifications that call for the federal standard sign mean the R7-8.
How high does an R7-8 have to be mounted?
Mount it with the bottom edge at least 60 inches above the ground. The 2010 ADA Standards set that minimum so the sign remains visible over a parked van.
R7-8 Reflective Sheeting Options
Because the R7-8 backs a legal parking restriction that has to stay legible for years of enforcement, the T-11500 OmniCube - up to 60 percent brighter with a 12-year outdoor durability rating - is the safer choice when night visibility matters most, while the T-6500 High Intensity Prismatic delivers proven 10-year durability.

- Most Reflective At Night
- Up to 60 percent brighter than HIP
- 12 Year Outdoor Durability
The R7-8 puts a green/blue legend on a white reflective background, and white returns more light than any other color under ASTM D4956, so nearly the entire face lights up under headlights. That is why stepping up to the T-11500 OmniCube produces such a visible change on this sign: you are brightening the color that already dominates the sign face.

R7-8 Mounting Hole Pattern and Spacing
The R7-8 has mounting holes on the vertical centerline, equally spaced from the top and bottom edges: the standard pattern for u-channel and square post mounting.
