What is a lane control sign?

A lane control sign (MUTCD R3 series) tells drivers which movements are allowed or required from a specific lane — such as which lanes must turn, may go straight, or are reserved for high-occupancy vehicles.

What is the difference between mandatory and optional movement signs?

Mandatory movement signs (R3-5) require drivers in that lane to make the indicated movement, while optional movement signs (R3-6) show a permitted movement the lane may also make, such as left or straight.

What is a lane must turn sign?

Left Lane Must Turn Left (R3-7L) and Right Lane Must Turn Right (R3-7R) require vehicles in that lane to turn in the indicated direction at the intersection.

What is a two-way left turn lane sign?

A Two-Way Left Turn Only sign (R3-9) marks a center lane shared by traffic in both directions for making left turns. It is available in overhead (R3-9a) and post-mounted (R3-9b) versions.

Do you carry HOV and carpool lane signs?

Yes. We offer HOV 2+ lane signs (R3-10 through R3-14), including time-restriction and lane-ahead versions for high-occupancy vehicle and carpool lanes.

Are lane control signs MUTCD compliant, and what materials are used?

The R3 series meets MUTCD specifications for public roads. Signs are made on rust-proof .080-inch aluminum with High Intensity Prismatic or Fluorescent reflective sheeting, and can be produced as custom signs.
