Introduction
As one of the most widely recognized traffic control devices, traffic cones are commonly seen bordering roadside work zones, limiting access to parking lots, and closing lanes on city streets. Compact and portable, cones have long been the channelizer of choice for utility workers, highway contractors, and first responders. Each traffic cone we offer has a unique combination of color, height, band style, and weight, matching a variety of situations.Specifications
Traffic cones are lightweight, portable, and durable, qualities essential to their enduring popularity. With weights ranging from 3 pounds to 12 pounds across all sizes, cones are easily transported from place to place. The molded handle at the cone top provides a secure grip, while similarly molded recesses on the cone body reduce potential wear and tear on reflective bands when cones are impacted, stacked, or transported.Impact-resistant and long-lasting, injection-molded PVC cones flex without breaking and can easily reset into its original shape after most impacts. Cones arrive with black, square-shaped PVC bases pre-installed onto the cone, and the raised dots around the cone bottom tightly interlock with the base to resist separation upon impact. Cleats molded into the base provide extra ground traction in windy or turbulent conditions, reducing chances of tip-over when in use.
Cone Color
Each configuration of cone color, height, band style, and weight has its specific uses. Primarily, the color of a cone determines the location that it can be used. Fluorescent orange cones are MUTCD-approved for roadway and construction use, while fluorescent lime green cones are designed for off-road and non-traffic uses.
Cone Height
In any given project plan, administrative bodies may require cones with specific combinations of height and band style. Generally, most plans call for 28-inch and 36-inch fluorescent orange cones, each with two high-intensity prismatic bands. The top band measures 6 inches wide and the band below measures 4 inches wide, fulfilling MUTCD retroreflective area requirements for high-speed roadway use and nighttime use.In contrast, 18-inch fluorescent orange cones are limited to daytime low-speed roadway use, with or without its reflective band. For non-traffic uses, 18-inch fluorescent lime green cones without a reflective band are often used in daylight, while fluorescent lime green cones with a reflective band are often used at nighttime for improved visibility.
