About Product
What is a Type I Barricade, and how is it used?
These temporary traffic control (TTC) devices are typically used on city streets, sidewalks, and parking lots to partially block roadway access while surfaces are being repaved, repaired, or when traffic must otherwise be temporarily rerouted.
Can I install a sign onto a barricade?
Yes, signs like the R9-9 Sidewalk Closed Sign can be attached between the two horizontal panels of the barricade.
Are these barricades compatible with Barricade Lights?
Yes. To boost visibility, a maximum of two Barricade Lights can be installed onto each of these TTC devices.
What is the difference between the front and the back of the barricade?
The top panel on the front of a Type I barricade has alternating orange and white stripes slanting downward to the right. In contrast, the back top panel has alternating orange and white stripes slanting downward to the left.
How should I store these barricades?
Type I Barricades are best stored in horizontal stacks. We suggest alternating the direction of the barricades to provide more stability, as well as limiting stacks to a maximum of 25 barricades, approximately 50” high.
Are panels pre-installed?
Yes, panels are pre-installed onto the 14-gauge, painted white steel barricade legs. 3/4” rivets ensure a secure, lasting connection.
Setup & Takedown
How do I set up a Type I Barricade?
The easiest way to open up the barricade is the following:
- Step 1: Stand the barricade upright and approach from the side.
- Step 2: Use one hand to grip the bottom of the top panel on the front. Use your other hand to grip the bottom of the top panel on the back.
- Step 3: Lift the barricade slightly and pull the top panels apart until the barricade does not open any further.
Note: It is essential to pull the barricade apart to its fullest width in order to stabilize its legs and best resist windy conditions.
How do I install a Barricade Light onto the barricade?
Install a Barricade Light using the following tools: Socket Wrench (3/4” bit), 10” Crescent Wrench, Ratchet, Anti-Theft Security Bit (included with a purchase of 10+ barricades). We recommend installing barricade lights one at a time.
Steps to Removing the bolt- Step 1: Close the barricade and stand it upright against a wall or sturdy fixture.
- Step 2: Locate the bolt on the inner side of the barricade legs, above the top panel.
- Step 3: Use the crescent wrench to securely grip the bolt head.
- Step 4: At the same time, on the outer side, align the socket wrench bit to match the nut.
- Step 5: Hold the crescent wrench steady while loosening the nut with the socket wrench.
- Step 6: Carefully remove the nut and bolt from the barricade legs.
- Step 1: Insert the bolt, threaded side inwards, and hold steady.
- Step 2: Align the barricade light with the bolt, and lightly screw in bolt into the barricade light by hand.
- Step 3: Hold the barricade light steady, align the anti-theft security bit with the bolt, and use the ratchet to tighten the bolt into the barricade light.
Repeat the steps for “Removing the bolt” and “Attaching the barricade lights” if you would like to install barricade lights on both ends of the barricade.
