About Product

What is a Water-Filled Barrier, and how is it used?

A Water-Filled Barrier is a channelizing device that borders a construction site or work zone, protecting workers and pedestrians as cars drive through the temporary travel path. Additionally, they may be used for parade routes, crowd control, special events, and lane delineation.

How heavy is the barrier with and without water?

Each section of the barrier is approximately 80 lbs. empty and approximately 1,110 lbs. when filled with water.

Can I line up these barriers onto a curved path?

Yes, each barrier section can be positioned at up to 30°, making the barrier layout more flexible to accommodate the shape of the work site perimeter.

The end view shows the orange plastic barrier's molded interlocking flanges with three rounded lobes stacked vertically, through which a steel T-pin is inserted to connect adjacent units. The T-pin features a cross pin at the top to prevent the rod from passing through and a cotter pin at the bottom for secure locking. No text, symbols, or reflective markings are visible on the end of the barrier, with only the molded plastic flanges and steel hardware shown.
The steel T-pin inserted through the interlocking end flanges securely links adjacent water-filled barriers into a continuous channelization line for work zone traffic control.

Setup & Take-down

How do barrier components install?

Each barrier section has four molded knuckles with holes on each side. To connect two sections, interlink the knuckles, resulting in a total of eight knuckles lined up. A steel T-pin threads down through the holes in those eight knuckles and can be locked into place using the keeper pin. The keeper pin is pre-installed onto the steel pin.

Three rounded lobes are stacked vertically, each with a connection pin hole aligned for inserting a steel T-pin to securely link adjacent barriers. The alternating lobe design allows the flanges of two barriers to interlock before the pin is inserted, creating a stable and aligned connection for continuous channelization lines.

The galvanized steel pin features a cotter pin on the left end for locking and a cross pin on the right end to prevent the rod from sliding through the interlocking flanges.
How do I fill the barrier?

Simply uncap the fill hole and pour water into the barrier. The fill hole is 8 in. in diameter, making filling the barrier with water faster and easier. Secure the cap with a simple twist to lock it into place.

The 8-inch twist-to-lock fill cap on the TrafFix water-filled barrier allows for fast, easy water filling and secures with a simple 45-degree rotation.
How can I move the barriers filled with water?

The underside of each barrier section is molded to fit the forks of a forklift.

How do I empty the barrier of water?

By uncapping the drain plug at the bottom of the barrier body. The plug is outfitted with a tamper-resistant screw top that is easy to remove
