Introduction
U-Channel Sign Postsare an essential tool of the trade for road workers, providing a base where traffic signs can be mounted. Posts are named for the U-shape that appears in the cross section of a given post. This U-shape continues all the way down the post to create a "U-channel" that allows for secure single- or double-sided sign mounting. Manufactured in the USA from high-quality re-rolled rail steel, posts are available in two distinct finishes. Hot-dipped galvanized posts are silver in color and typically used for permanent installations, while green baked enamel posts are often used for temporary installations in work zones.Specifications and Measurement
U-Channel Sign Posts are available in standard 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, and 14-foot lengths to accommodate varying roadside elevations and sign mounting heights. Flanges at the bottom 2.5 inches of the post are tapered for easier ground installation. All post lengths arrive with pre-punched .375" diameter holes that are spaced 1 inch apart. Spacing between holes is measured from the center of one hole to the center of the next hole. The space between the top of the post and the center of the first hole is 1 inch, and the space between the bottom of post to the center of the last hole is also 1 inch.
Technical Specifications
Standards: The material and manufacturing process for U-Channel Sign Posts meet all ASTM standards. The high carbon re-rolled rail steel used for sign posts weighs in at 91 lbs/yd or more, meeting the ASTM A499, Grade 60 standard. Both post finishes, hot-dipped galvanization and green baked enamel, fulfill the ASTM A123 requirements.
