Example Use:
In a suburban neighborhood near a pond that is home to a family of ducks, local residents notice that the ducks frequently cross a particular street in the morning to reach a grassy feeding area. Concerned for the safety of the ducks, the residents petition the town council to install a Duck Crossing Sign at this specific location. The town council approves the request and places a bright, reflective Duck Crossing Sign at both approaches to this part of the street, where the ducks are known to cross. In addition, the speed limit is lowered to 20 miles per hour in this area, and the change is clearly marked. Now, as drivers approach this part of the street, they are made aware of the potential presence of ducks by the sign and are reminded to reduce their speed. As a result, drivers are more alert and prepared to stop if necessary, significantly reducing the likelihood of ducks being struck by vehicles. This proactive measure by the community and town council thus helps to protect the local duck population.
